Fishing Reports

9-18-17

Tough surf conditions so bring the heavy metals. The back and the Toms River might be the best choice with large blues around and some short bass. Plenty of snappers still around as well. The canal is producing tog on green crabs, blues and bass  especially at slack tide for those fishing live eels and artificials.

Pretty much the same thing with bait moving and there are fish waiting so you should be moving also.

Some short bass showed up yesterday off the surf along with the larger blues mostly hitting bunker chunks and mullet. Plenty of snappers in the wash as well. Large blues roaming around the back and the Toms River again off the local docks yesterday and there are still plenty of snappers around to keep you busy. Crabbing is slow but those leaving out their overnight pots are doing ok. More fresh bunker came in and we also just got a delivery of fresh peanut bunker in at Murphy's. We have fresh clams, live eels, and green crabs in stock at Murphy's.

Didn't hear much from the surf yesterday but a few guys in a couple different spots in the back and the Toms River got into some blues. Pat Murphy picked up some gator blues and short bass that hit shads and live eels. Guys fishing for blowfish anchoring and chumming in between the BB and BI bouy are also picking up porgies and throwing back seabass.

Some bigger blues were reported again yesterday off the surf in a couple spots hitting bunker chunks and mullet but it seemed that the back was the place to be early yesterday morning and again before dark last night. Gator blues roaming the local docks, piers and bulkheads in the back and the Toms River. Heard of a decent bass bite from a couple guys fishing the canal "area" with live eels. Another delivery of Super Strike lures came into Murphy's yesterday in a few different styles, sizes and weight. We have fresh clams, fresh bunker, live eels and killies in both shops and Murphy's has shiners so stop in and pick up what you need on your way out.
