Fishing Reports

6-21-17

Slow pick off the surf yesterday with a few blues and a couple keeper fluke off of IBSP reported. The back bay is still holding blues as Kiefer Samul weighed in a nice 12.4 pound blue he got from his kayak in the back bay. Brian Lindner picked up cocktail blues by boat in the Ocean Gate area last night before dark. Crabbing is picking up daily according to a few of our customers trying for them off the local docks but it is still not great by any means. Those with overnight pots and leaving them out for a couple days are doing better. We have fresh bunker, fresh clams, live eels and killies in stock at both shops.

For the freshwater fisherman more shiners came in yesterday and we would like to say congrats to George Millers daughter on catching her first bass. George also posted a nice bass as well.

Happy Birthday Mike from all of us at Murphy's Hook House and Go Fish Bait & Tackle.

There was a pick of fish off the surf yesterday in a few locations. Mostly blues with a couple of bass hitting bait. Bunker chunks and clams for the bait and waiters and metals, poppers, swimmers and bucktails for those throwing artificials and moving. Virginia Murphy picked up a nice 20 lb bass drifting eels in the canal and Jim Mathis picked up a 9 and 10 pound blue in the Island Heights area on bunker chunks. We have Fresh Clams, Fresh Bunker, Live Eels and Killies in stock at both shops so stop in and pick up what you need on your way out.

Happy Fathers Day from all of us at Murphy's and Go Fish Bait & Tackle.

There was a better bass bite off the local beaches yesterday with keepers reported hitting clams. The blues were around again last night in a few spots hitting bunker chunks and artificials. There are still blues in the back bay ranging in size hitting poppers and swimmers along with short bass. Cocktail size blues are still roaming the Toms River hitting artificials for those targeting them. We heard of a few keeper fluke that were picked up in the Oyster Creek area on Kettle Creek shads with 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz jig heads. A few customers reported that the crabbing is picking up in Island Heights and on the opposite side of the river in the Ocean Gate area. More fresh bunker came in and fresh clams will be here today.
