Fishing Reports

8-18-18

Small blues cruising the shoreline off the local beaches hitting small metals. Not to sound like a broken record but the Jetty Ghost Mullnut and Rainfish are out performing "MOST" other metals this week off the surf. Jig for fluke or steady retrieve with a Mullnut and see what happens. For the bait and waiters bunker chunks or mullet is the way to go. Short bass up to 24 inches cruising around the bridge and Pelican Island last night hitting small shads was the word. Snappers and crabs was good again yesterday on both sides of the Toms River. We have fresh spearing, fresh bunker, killies and more live eels came in today.

Rainfish and peanuts off the local beaches with cocktail size blues on their tail hitting metals and small poppers. Fluke bite yesterday off the beach for a few customers was good with Jetty Ghost Mullnut's and a teaser. Keeper bass and blues in the canal last night hitting live eels. Gary Dellisanti weighed in a nice 6.5 pound fluke he got outside fishing the Ambrose Channel with a salmon strip and pink Gulp shine. A lot of short fluke with a few keepers mixed in inbetween the BB and BI bouy but those anchoring and targeting blowfish in "THAT same area" are finding fish by chumming heavily and using small pieces of clam or squid on a blowfisfh rig. Snappers and crabbing remains good on both sides of the Toms River if you find a spot where no one has been to. Fresh spearing came into both shops yesterday along with fresh bunker and killies so stop in and pick up what you need on your way out.

Same thing off the surf, bay, canal and the river as we have been saying yesterday. But we did get in fresh spearing in both shops for those of you who have been asking for it.

A few short bass along with some cocktail size blues showed up in the surf the last couple of days. The fluke bite continues to be good off the local beaches with your odds increasing on IBSP taking advantage of the 2 fish at 16 inches. Jeffrey Bissey Jr. picked up a couple nice keeper bass fishing live eels after dark. Blowfish have showed up for a few of our customers targeting them in the bay by anchoring and chumming and using small pieces of clam on a blowfish rig.  Crabbing and the snapper bite remains steady on both sides of the Toms River so get out there if you can.

Same thing off the surf with a lot of short fluke with some keepers mixed in. Go Fish weighed in a nice approx. 8 lb fluke yesterday that was caught North of the Shark River. Some cocktail blues cruising the sure line hitting small metals in a few spots. The canal is producing bass at night for those fishing live eels. Crabs and snappers in the bay and the Toms River.

That's all folks.

Mario.
