Fishing Reports

10-6-17

Not many fishermen out yesterday but there were blues popping up in a few locations. We heard of a few short bass hitting artificials off the surf as well. A couple boats targeting blowfish in between the BB and BI bouy by anchoring and chumming had decent catches. A couple customers came in and reported some spike weakfish in the Toms River yesterday along with short bass. Steve Domanski picked up 3 dozen keeper crabs in Island Heights. The canal is producing blackfish on green crabs and for those fishing live eels at night are finding some keeper bass and blues. More green crabs came in and we have fresh bunker, live eels and fresh mullet in stock at Murphy's.

Cocktail size blues hitting bunker, mullet and metals off the surf and some short bass hitting bunker, clams and artificials in a couple spots. Still some large blues roaming the back bay and the Toms River and short bass hitting small swimmers early morning, dusk and after dark. Fresh mullet came in and we have fresh bunker and fresh clams.

Note: Murphy's has 1 Star S7000 reel left and Go Fish has 1 also. More are on order.

Some short bass and small blues off the surf. Bunker chunks and mullet for the bait and waiters and metals such as the Jetty Ghost Rainfish or Minnow was working for a few guys. SP Minnows also worked. The back bay and the Toms River is still producing blues off the local docks and short bass are hitting small swimmers at night. Those fishing the canal at night with live eels are picking up bass and blues. We have fresh bunker, live eels and fresh clams came in so stop in either shop and pick up what you need on your way out.

Birds working and small blues off the surf again yesterday hitting bait and artificials. Some larger blues mixed in along with a few short bass. The back bay and the Toms River produced small blues off a couple local docks on both sides of the river and good reports of decent catches of crabs came in from a few of our customers. The canal produced blackfish and small blues as well.

Star reels came in today at Murphy's so stop in and pick one up before they are gone.

With the cooler temps the surf picked up yesterday with blues and some short bass hitting artificials. The back and the Toms River produced as well as our resident blind squirrel Steve Domanski picked up a 10 1/4 pound blue in Island Heights that lost it's way hitting mullet. He also had a couple dozen nice blueclaws. Brian Lindner and Rob Cashin had a good day near the canal by picking up a smorgasbord of fish including blackfish, blues, kingfish and blowfish. Billy Meyer is picking up blues in Island Heights as we speak on poppers.

Get out there
