Fishing Reports

9-30-17

With the surf conditions improving there were some small blues around hitting bunker chunks and mullet for the bait and waiters and a few short bass hitting artificials with a teaser. A few large blues were reported off a couple local docks in the Island Heights area and decent reports of crabs from a few customers who are still trying for them. The blackfish bite remains good at the jetty and the canal along with some blues. Jeff Brown picked up a nice blackfish close to 6 pounds on green crabs. We have fresh bunker, live eels and more green crabs will be here this morning so stop in either shop and pick up what you need on your way out.

Quiet off the surf again due to the conditions and not many fisherman out there but things are improving so hopefully we will start hearing some good news. The back bay and the Toms River "again" produced some decent size blues hitting bait. Short bass early morning, at dusk and after dark hitting small swimmers and swim shads on both sides of the River and a little South in the back bay. Crabbing on both sides of the river has improved with some decent size blueclaws being taken. More fresh clams and fresh bunker will be here today and we have plenty of live eels in stock for the weekend.

Not much has changed the last couple of days off the surf. The back bay and the Toms River is producing blues and short bass especially at night on small swimmers but the key is to move around. Those putting their time in are picking up crabs on both sides of the Toms River and there are still plenty of snappers around to keep you busy. We got in a large delivery of waders, metals, Penn Pursuit II's and a bunch of other items needed for the fall run and Stillwater just delivered more Smack It's and Smack It Jr.s. More live eels came in today for those fishing the jetty and the canal so stop in and pick up what you need on your way out.

Same thing off the surf with not many fisherman out there yesterday so we didn't hear much. The canal and the back bay produced again yesterday for the few who hit a couple spots. For those trying for blowfish we have chum logs in stock. We have fresh clams, green crabs and more live eels came in so get out there if you can.

A little quiet off the surf yesterday as we heard of a few blues and a couple short bass but that's about it. Large blues and short bass roaming the back and the Toms River mostly hitting bait but there are shorts at night hitting small swimmers. Crabbing reports are improving from both sides of the Toms River.
